BADGE DESIGNS
The laminated cardboard badges are £2.75 each. They are 50x50mm or 50x60mm
approx. The front is covered with a clear vinyl film and there is a chrome steel
security pin embedded in the laminate. The plastic disk badges at £2.95 each are 55mm (2 ins) wide, have a clear
Perspex™fascia and a safety pin clasp.
The 30x75mm name badges are on white acrylic Perspex™plastic sheet 75mm
(3ins) wide and 30mm (1¼ins) high at £3.25 each and have a glued-in
badge pin. The patterns from the badge gallery are adapted to fit, which
usually means the picture is reduced in size to about 25mm (1in.)
across. The clip-on name badges are in a rectangular clear plastic
frame 73 x 55mm (3ins x 2ins) and have a crocodile clip for attachment.
They are £3.50 each. The latest addition to the range of products is
the Slimline Flexi Badge at £3.75. It is similar in construction to an
ID Card. The size is 82x54mm (a little over 3ins x 2ins) and less
than ¼ a millimetre thick. These badges are splash-proof and suitable
for outdoor use. The most popular badge types are the handmade shaped badges
on white acrylic Perspex™plastic sheet at £3.95 each, or plywood and MDF board at £4.25 each. They measure 50-65mm
across (2-2½ ins). They have a glued-in badge pin,
transfer-printed and painted design in bright colours, and a gloss vinyl
coating. Finally, there is the solid new spruce wood badge with a
transparent background so the wood-grain shows through at £4.25. Animals, insects, fish and birds are always popular, as you might expect, but I also do flowers,
cartoon characters, flags, club badges, letters, numbers, and goodness knows
what else. I am often asked "What are the most popular designs?" and I
have to say the cartoon characters are in great demand, especially those
featuring characters from Winnie the Pooh stories.
The most popular design of all time is Tigger 1 where he is holding a
placard with the wearer's name on it. The idea came from a custom badge
order and the design was developed from artwork supplied by the buyer.
Eeyore is second, then Pooh himself followed by Piglet. Another film
favourite is Tinkerbell at number 5, and although you might think Betty Boop is old
hat nowadays, she is sixth on the popularity list. One or two of
my own creations are quite successful, too. The injured animals series
are often bought by A&E staff, and the midwife designs by - would
you believe - midwives? Desmond the Dragon and Frankie the Frog are two
more of mine that are
frequently ordered and Dolly Nurse is the last of these I will mention.
Dolly is a character developed from stories I used to make up on the spur
of the moment for my daughter when she was 5 or 6 years old. They
centred around a little doll - originally named "Dolly Hungrytum" - who came to life at night. She was always
hungry and getting into awkward situations in her search for good things
to eat. Fortunately my daughter never asked what Dolly did when the food
reached the end of the digestive process - I have no idea how I might
have dealt with that! Here are some examples of
the popular badges I have mentioned.
